From the President:
It is crucial that Purdue and the Purdue Community become more
engaged, knowledgeable, and involved citizens in the greater
Lafayette/West Lafayette Community. We are not people simply
passing through on our way to bigger and (better?) places, but
residents that need to make a commitment to working toward the
improvement of the environment in this area. This is why we need to
educate ourselves about the value of supporting local endeavors,
buying local foods, purchasing items that are healthier for the
environment, supporting local schools, and keeping our community
clean. These goals and contributions to community are the reason
that the ESC engages in activities such as adopt a highway, teaches
children in local school programs, supports businesses in the
community who are supporting the environment, and tries to
educate ourselves about the best choices that we can be making as
individuals.

Scotty Lavanne
Public Relations Director
Major: Civil Engineering (Hydraulics Emphasis)
Expected Graduation: May 2011
From the Public Relations Director:
I have always enjoyed spending time in the natural world whether I'm
backpacking, canoeing, biking, or just taking in my surroundings. It is that
appreciation of the environment that has lead to me wanting to understand
and protect the environment. That's a big part of why I'm studying civil
engineering. Human growth is inevitable, so we need people concerned about
the environment helping determine how we interact with it. I hope to help
the ESC do the best we can in our mission of environmental education and
awareness.
